Tips For Keeping Your Kids' Feet Safe During Summer

A lot goes into finding the perfect shoes for your little kids. You will need a fun and beautiful pair of shoes, and they also need to be fit for playing and be safe to wear in the sun. Speaking of safety, below are some tips when maintaining your kid's feet safety during the summer.

Find Shoes That Look Stunning and Can Handle Playtime

Kids appreciate their playtime often more than anything, well, maybe until you bring out sweets. As such, during the hot summer, to keep your kid's feet from ground burns and sweating, you should find the proper footwear. When playtime involves running and dirt, perhaps finding sports shoes is the right choice.

Unlike open shoes for indoors or the beach, sports shoes will support your kid's ankles and protect his feet when running. However, teach your kids to tie up the shoelaces and tie them tightly to prevent them from falling over during play.

Choose the Right Shoe Material for the Summer

Hot and humid summer conditions and closed shoes leave your kid's feet sweating, which can cause smelly feet. Therefore, when buying shoes for the summer, ensure you purchase sunsmart shoes and offer your kids' feet heat protection. Avoid synthetic plastic shoes; instead, purchase summer shoes for kids made from leather as it is more breathable in the sun.

Beach and Pool Safety

Chances to go for a beach or pool swim to cool down are high in the summer. When planning on a beach or pool trip, consider buying flip-flops for your children. Flip flops are open and don't soak in water at the pool, thus avoiding any fungus growth.

However, we advise that while at the beach, allow your kids to walk around barefoot as walking on sand can exfoliate skin and strengthen their feet. To ensure heat protection while they walk barefoot or in flip flops, consider using sunscreen, taking more care on the ankles and fingers.

Your child's feet are important, especially during the summer activities and play. Ensure you follow the tips above and buy proper summer shoes for kids to keep them from getting hurt or burned from the scorching summer sun.

How to Prepare Baby Formula

If you’re feeding your baby formula, you’ve no doubt spent time reading and researching to determine the best type for your little one. So now that you’ve chosen the formula, are you ready to properly prepare it in baby bottles for consumption?

The tips below can help you ensure that your baby is getting the right nutrition and reduce the possibility of food-borne illness.

Sanitize and prep your materials

First and foremost, wash your hands! Make sure to scrub with soap and warm water thoroughly for as long as it takes you to sing the “Happy Birthday” song. Then, take a close look at your formula container to ensure that it’s not expired.

Before you begin, you will need to sanitize all your baby bottles and the area you’ll be using to prepare the formula. This process includes sterilizing any baby bottle parts you plan to use, including the nipples, rings, and caps. To do so, you can boil the bottles in hot water for five minutes, use a microwave bottle steamer, or use an electric steam sterilizer.

Carefully measure and add water

Powdered formula and liquid concentrate require that you add water before giving it to your baby. However, if you use too much water, the formula won’t provide your baby the right amount of nutrition. And if you use too little water, your baby could get dehydrated. Refer to the formula’s container for specific instructions on how much water to use.

TIP: Always add the water first and the formula second. Close baby bottles tightly before shaking the contents to mix well.

You can use any clean water to make formula, whether it’s tap or bottled water. If you use well water, boil it for a minute or two first and then cool it to about 98 degrees Fahrenheit before mixing it with powdered formula or liquid concentrate.

You can warm the formula up by running it under the tap or filling a bowl with warm water and letting the bottle rest in it for a few minutes. Some babies prefer it at room temperature or even cold, so you’ll have to learn what your baby likes through trial and error.

Store formula properly

If you’re preparing multiple baby bottles of formula simultaneously, make sure to refrigerate them all and label them, so you know what date they were made. Don’t use any formula that’s been sitting in the fridge for longer than 24 hours.

If you let them just do their thing, they’re going to be happy during mealtime and enjoy new foods more. Plus, this is the perfect opportunity for messy-face pictures to embarrass them when they get older!

Use Positive Language and Cues

Remember, mealtime is supposed to be a positive and happy time for your child. When you use positive language and avoid negativity, they’ll be more likely to enjoy food and mealtime overall.
